Mirror Mirror on the Wall
The fireplace in the living room was covered with mirror some time in the 1980s, and the wooden walls were covering the old wallpaper and a couple of windows.
Old Sink
Our laundry room used to be the location of the old powder room, but the area closed off was barely big enough for somebody to go inside. I have nothing against a corner sink, but the size of this powder room might have been even too small for this small sink. Happy that our powder room will be slightly larger and more pleasant.
Old Wiring
The funny thing about this renovation is the hoops that we're having to go through to vastly improve it. Seriously. We wouldn't have had to approve anything if we wanted to just keep this old wiring, but the fact that we're taking out this scary old electricity means that we have to approve and re-approve everything with the city.
Heavy Trash
Not one to spend money unnecessarily on a dumpster we carefully pile all of our trash out on every second month. It's a slow way to get rid of trash, but our driveway is really too steep for a dumpster anyway.
The Old Bathroom
This old bathroom needs a bit of love, but we're hopeful that it'll turn into a beautiful space once we're done with it.
Old Bathroom
First of all, sorry for the explicit and gross. Secondly, this will be a pretty cool bathroom once the tub is cleaned and literally everything else is changed about it.
Laundry Room
When we pulled off the drywall covering the walls in the old half-bath and dining room we were greeted with extensive termite damage from an active termite infestation. Eek! We've treated for termites, re-plumbed the area, and decided to turn it into a laundry room.
Big Dog, Small Chair
Sebastian has been very frustrated about his seating options lately, so he's taken it on himself to claim even the smallest of chairs as his personal seat. Eventually he'll have a couch to lounge on, but until that time he'll just have to content himself on smaller surfaces.
Back Door
We've had a piece of plywood screwed into our backdoor hole for so long that we had almost forgotten what it was like to easily enter and exit through our backyard.
Bathroom 1.0
Our bathroom! Super stoked to have a working sink, shower, and toilet installed. Sure, we don't have hot water, haven't painted anything yet, and still need to buy most of our supplies . . . but it's here and it's ours.
Moving Day - Living and Dining Rooms
In case y'all had any doubts (hopes?) on the state of the house the day we moved in, let me inform you. Our house was still very much incomplete on the weekend we moved in. We prioritized the room we would be sleeping in, and were unable to finish much else, as evidenced by the state of our living areas.
Moving Day - Master Suite
We're sleeping in the smallest bedroom until we can finish the master suite, so we'll probably be sleeping in another bedroom for a while.
Moving Day - Kitchen
Kitchens are expensive and we won't be able to finish ours for a while, so we're contenting ourselves with a few necessities for the time being. Sink, tiny counter, and dog feeder are all we need for now!
Moving Day - Bedroom 2
We've moved most of the wood into the master suite (as evidenced by "Moving Day - Master Suite") so we are happy to see that this room really is a decent size. We're excited to work toward some level of completeness in this room over the next month or so.
Getting Comfortable
We don't have any central air installed as of this posting, so we mostly hang out in "the cabin" with the curtains drawn and the window unit working on max. Sebastian has gotten very comfortable jumping on to the bed, where he gets the best air.
Sebastian checking out the bed
We've really missed our bed and are super excited to be able to sleep on it again. We had hoped that Sebastian's new bed would mean that he would stop sleeping in our bed, but he still prefers our memory foam to his own.
Building the Landing
AC Cage
Woohoo we have air conditioning! We're worried about getting the copper stolen out of the unit, so we had a cage welded to keep it safe.
